Abandoned Denbigh Mental Asylum (Denbighshire, Wales)
This North Wales hospital was abandoned in 1995. The building took 4 years to complete after starting work in 1844. It was a hospital that was meant to accommodate 200 psychiatric patients however had 1,500 at its full capacity. During the years of operation, there were sinister beliefs that treatments such as lobotomies and bloodletting were crucial in the sense to fight “demons” as well as keeping the patients in appalling isolate conditions. The lunatic asylum was closed due to overcrowding and staff shortages…
The architecture is unreal, the history behind those sad walls is atrocious and the suffering of the patients is unforgivable. The energy speaks for itself. There is significant damage to the property due to general deterioration, arson and vandalism.
