This song is an emotional ballad. Drawing on themes such as being alone, writing and singing songs at 2am. Talks of humanity, civilization and having your own back, in what can sometimes be, a dark and cruel world.
It was what my life felt like before I met my darling wife.
The novel 'We Men of Ash and Shadow' (written by author, HL Tinsley) also influenced this powerful song, relating to the protagonist of the story. A book that highlights crime and survival, but also redemption and betrayal…and a dark past.
